Weastflows meeting at the Port of Portsmouth

On the 19th and 20th June Portsmouth International Port hosted a Weastflows conference where we worked together with all Weastflows partners on all the activities in the Weastflows project. The Weastflows project aims to improve the efficiency of freight logistics in North West Europe.

The visitors were briefed on an innovative ‘track and trace’ system developed within the Weastflows project at Portsmouth International Port as one of UK’s most important destinations for fresh fruit shipped from overseas.  It allows organisations involved with the export, shipping and import of fresh produce to follow the progress of fruit loads.

The idea behind the system is simple - barcodes are attached to products the moment they start to make the journey. An innovative web portal allows organisations involved in the shipment to monitor progress. The system helps to reduce waste by making sure parties in the supply chain are in the right place at the right time.
