Trend from NL: More year-round pedaling

Winter cycling conference Those of us living in the North don't want to believe the season will ever end, but imagine how much better the cold months might be if it were a little easier to keep cycling. In The Netherlands, it is not unusual to cycle year round, but there is still great potential for improving winter cycling here. This is why we are excited to announce the Winter Cycling Congress 2015 will be held in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, February 10-12, 2015.

Update Dutch Safety

Update Dutch Traffic Safety

In 2013, total traffic fatalities in The Netherlands declined by 12 percent, while the European average was a decline of 8 percent. There's a ways to go until everybody gets home safe, but more cities are adopting vision zero, new technology is being developed to improve communication between bikes and cars and Dutch authorities at all levels are actively working to develop partnerships and innovations that improve road safety.

Oud beijerland

Placemaking through Shared Space

The Dutch town of Oud-Beijerland (24.000 inhabitants) had a problem. Their shopping district and historical centre was becoming less and less attractive due to the unpleasant and unsafe conditions on the busy thoroughfare meant to bring people to the shops and centre in the first place. Mobycon designer Dick van Veen created the solution, and it was not a bike lane, cycle track or a ban on cars. Instead, Dick created a design that transformed the thoroughfare into a true Shared Space.

Featured Film: Mama Agatha

Fadi Hindash was sitting in a park last summer when he happened to notice a group of older women wearing headscarves taking bicycle lessons. As a writer and director who had recently immigrated to Amsterdam, he was struck by this image of immigrant women learning the most fundamental of Dutch skills and knew he had to tell their story. This is how the documentary film Mama Agatha was born.

Pedestrian and Cyclist friction in Tel Aviv, Israel

Tel Aviv is growing rapidly as a cycling city and now has a mode share of 12 percent, but as more cyclists take to the streets, friction between cyclists and pedestrians is increasing. Senior Consultant Angela van der Kloof gave a workshop on this topic when she travelled to Tel Aviv in April participating in a trip organised by the Dutch Cycling Embassy. Do you have a passion for traffic, transport and mobility and skill in design, media or photography? We have an internship position this autumn at our head office in Delft.
The intern will support our graphic designer and our consultants in new and on-going international projects, with a focus on cycling. It is an opportunity to learn about the Dutch approach to traffic and transportation and gain experience working at a consultancy. There is also the opportunity to work on projects or research that you initiate yourself.
